FAQs
Powerlifting singlets themselves do not directly help lift more weight. However, they serve several important purposes that can indirectly contribute to better performance:
- Compression and Support: Powerlifting singlets are designed to provide compression and support to the muscles during lifts. This compression can help improve blood circulation, reduce muscle oscillation, and enhance proprioception, all of which may contribute to better performance.
- Range of Motion: Singlets are typically form-fitting, which reduces excess fabric that could impede movement during lifts. A snug fit allows lifters to move more freely and efficiently, potentially allowing them to lift heavier weights.
- Psychological Boost: Wearing a singlet can also provide a psychological boost to lifters by making them feel more professional and focused on their performance.
In powerlifting competitions, wearing singlets is mandatory for all participants. Each powerlifting federation has established rules that athletes must follow, and wearing standard lifting attire such as oversized t-shirts and shorts is not permitted.
Yes, a powerlifting singlet should fit tightly to your body, but it should not restrict your movements. A well-fitted singlet provides compression and support to the muscles without impeding your range of motion. This snug fit ensures that the singlet effectively reduces excess fabric that could interfere with your lifts, allowing you to move freely and perform at your best.
Powerlifting singlets offer several benefits to athletes:
- Compression and Support: Singlets provide compression to the muscles, which can enhance blood circulation, reduce muscle oscillation, and improve proprioception. This compression helps support the muscles during lifts, potentially reducing the risk of injury and improving performance.
- Range of Motion: A well-fitted singlet eliminates excess fabric that could hinder movement during lifts. This allows athletes to move more freely and efficiently, maximizing their range of motion and enabling them to perform lifts with better technique.
- Compliance with Competition Rules: Many powerlifting competitions require athletes to wear singlets as part of the official attire. By wearing a singlet, athletes ensure compliance with competition regulations and avoid the risk of disqualification.
- Professional Appearance: Singlets contribute to a professional appearance during competitions, instilling confidence in athletes and helping them maintain focus on their performance.
- Temperature Regulation: Singlets are typically made from breathable materials that help regulate body temperature during intense lifting sessions. They wick away sweat and keep athletes cool and comfortable throughout their workouts.
Overall, powerlifting singlets provide support, compliance with competition rules, enhanced range of motion, and a professional appearance, making them a valuable piece of attire for powerlifters.
Singlets are worn to ensure consistency and fairness among competitors. The singlet is tight-fitting and reveals the entire upper body and legs, making it easy to see if a lifter is using any type of performance-enhancing equipment, such as a supportive bench press shirt or squat suit.

What Does it Mean To Be IPF Approved?
All our singlets are IPF-approved and meet the stringent specifications set out in the IPF Technical Rules. Here's what you need to know:
Supportive Singlets
Suitable for Equipped competitions, supportive singlets must:
- Be made of a single thickness of material.
Feature legs extending 3–15 cm from the crotch, as measured in a standing position. - Be unaltered beyond factory seams; only pleats made on original seams are permitted.
- Display approved logos, including those of manufacturers, nations, or sponsors (where allowed).
Non-Supportive Singlets
Ideal for Classic/Raw competitions, non-supportive singlets must:
- Be one-piece, form-fitting, and provide no assistance during lifts.
- Include legs extending 3–25 cm from the crotch.
- Be made entirely of fabric or synthetic textile, with a single thickness except for an optional crotch patch (12 cm x 24 cm).
- Adhere to the same logo guidelines as supportive singlets.
For both types, the singlet straps must be worn over the shoulders during all lifts in all competitions.
These singlets are approved for use in IPF competitions worldwide, ensuring compliance with the highest standards.
