We recommend hand washing the Lifting Straps with warm water and a mild detergent, and allow the straps to air dry laying on a towel (the towel will help absorb water from the straps so they do not sit in water) or by hanging the straps to dry.
What are the differences between the Lifting Straps?
The SBD lifting straps are available in two styles, as traditional lifting straps and as figure 8 lifting straps. Both styles feature our proprietary webbing which offers greater strength than a nylon wrap, whilst providing the comfort and flexibility of a cotton wrap. The lifting straps come in a universal size and can be adjusted to your desired tightness around your wrists and the bar. The figure 8 lifting straps are available in three fixed sizes, allowing you to choose the best size for your hand and style of lifting.
Which Lifting Straps should I choose?
The Lifting Straps provide a strong grip for any pulling movement, while also allowing a quick release. The figure 8 Lifting Straps use our patent-pending design which chokes the strap to the wrist during the lift, locking the athlete to the bar. This security allows the athlete to disengage the arms, reducing any load through the biceps and maximising the lever arm, for maximum strength or reps. The Lifting Straps are versatile and can be easily used for a number of exercises and general training. The Figure 8 Straps are most suited to deadlift training and other strongman events.
What exercises can I use the Lifting Straps for?
The Lifting Straps are typically used to eliminate grip as a limiting factor when deadlifting. They can also be wrapped around other bars, handles or attachments for a number of different pulling movements, to lift greater loads without being limited by your grip strength, and to reduce stress on the biceps.
FAQs
Using lifting straps can be beneficial for individuals who struggle with grip strength or when performing exercises that heavily rely on grip, such as deadlifts or pull-ups. Lifting straps help to secure the grip on the barbell or other equipment, allowing you to focus more on the targeted muscle groups rather than worrying about your grip failing.
Lifting straps can make a significant difference for individuals who have weak grip strength or when lifting heavier weights. They provide additional support to the grip, enabling you to lift heavier loads with more control and stability. However, it's essential to use lifting straps appropriately and not rely on them excessively, as this may hinder grip strength development over time.
While wrist wraps primarily provide support and stability to the wrist joint during lifting exercises, lifting straps are specifically designed to enhance grip strength and prevent the barbell from slipping out of your hands. Wrist wraps wrap around the wrist to provide compression and support, whereas lifting straps loop around the wrist and the barbell to secure the grip.
The decision to use lifting straps for a deadlift depends on individual strength and grip endurance. Generally, lifting straps can be beneficial when lifting heavier weights that challenge your grip strength. It's advisable to start incorporating lifting straps when you find that your grip is limiting your deadlift performance, typically when lifting weights close to your maximal capacity.
Whether to deadlift with or without straps depends on your specific goals and circumstances. Deadlifting without straps allows for greater grip strength development and engages the forearm muscles more intensely. However, using straps can be advantageous when focusing on maximal strength development or when grip strength becomes a limiting factor, especially during higher volume or heavier deadlift sessions.
You may consider wearing lifting straps when your grip strength becomes a limiting factor during lifting exercises, particularly when performing heavy deadlifts, rows, or pull-ups. If you find that your grip is failing before your targeted muscle groups are adequately fatigued, using lifting straps can help you maintain proper form and continue training effectively. However, it's essential to strike a balance and not rely solely on lifting straps to the detriment of grip strength development.
For beginners, lifting straps can be a useful tool depending on individual circumstances and goals. If grip strength is a significant limiting factor during exercises like deadlifts or rows, lifting straps can help beginners focus more on proper form and muscle engagement without worrying about their grip failing prematurely. However, it's essential for beginners to also prioritize grip strength development through exercises like farmer's walks, hanging exercises, and grip-focused training to avoid over-reliance on lifting straps. Overall, while lifting straps can be beneficial for beginners in certain situations, it's important to use them judiciously and in conjunction with grip strengthening exercises to ensure balanced progress in strength training.
